Together, We Can Build Awareness for Change.

#Stand4Others

Every day someone nearby is suffering from an Eating Disorder. Due to the negative stigma attached to Eating Disorders, those who suffer with one often do not ask for help as they fear the backlash.

Eating Disorders Foundation of Canada would like you and others to help those in need by standing up for them. Don’t let those who suffer in silence become another statistic.

How Do You Know If You Have an Eating Disorder?

If the way you eat and think about food interferes with your life and keeps you from enjoying life and moving forward, then that is disordered eating. Take it seriously and talk to someone who can help. You don't need to wait for a diagnosis by a doctor.

If you suspect that you or someone you love is suffering from an eaing disorder, please seek professional guidance as soon as possible because early intervention is the key to successful recovery.

How to Help

People can, and do, recover from eating disorders, but professional help is almost always required. Unfortunately, the longer symptoms are denied or ignored, the more difficult recovery will be. If you or someone you know suffers from a possible eating disorder, it's important to seek help immediately. Family members and friends can also benefit from information and help.

You may find it difficult and stressful to approach someone you care about who has an eating disorder. You may wonder what to say, or be worried about what will happen as a result. These are legitimate fears. Rest assured, however, there are things you can do to offer support.

Prevention of Disordered Eating

Understanding that you can make a difference and that you can affect the people around you. By working together, we can stop people from hating their bodies, thinking too much about their weight, and developing eating disorders.

Your prevention project does not have to be expensive or complicated. Prevention can be as simple as living a healthy life, focusing on health and well-being, and knowing the risk factors for problems with food and weight. Changes can start in your home, school, workplace, sports, and anywhere else you can think of. Explore the EDFC Education Page or get in touch with the form on the Contact Page.
